CEO Delivers Key Note Address at 2nd Power Breakfast Meeting
Mrs. Ivy Apea Owusu, CEO of Cirrus Oil Services Ltd, delivered the key note speech at the second power breakfast meeting organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce-Ghana at Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra. The Chamber brought together policy makers, government officials, industry leaders, young entrepreneurs, and academia to discuss and deliberate on Ghana’s business climate in a global perspective, under the topic: Emerging businesses for the Ghanaian Entrepreneur due to the oil and gas find in Ghana. Some extracts of the speech were as follows:
Considering Ghana’s new position as an oil producing country, the need for local content cannot be overemphasized; however there is the need for stringent measures to ensure local businesses followed the right procedures, delivered timely and operated in a transparent and professional fashion to give them the needed edge over their foreign counterparts. If local companies would be preferred then they needed to “be on top of their game and not compromise standardsâ€. Local companies need to be abreast with industry practice and operate under world class standards.
The Oil and Gas industry has enormous untapped opportunities which are less capital intensive than upstream exploration. Support services such as Trucking and janitorial services etc. were viable opportunities, which young entrepreneurs could take advantage of. There are also the opportunities for joint ventures with foreign partners to draw mutual benefits
